Nostalgic Chaos + Ginger Root
As lights dim and the audience falls to a hush, fans are greeted by the CEO of Juban TV on the video screen, speaking on the behalf of Ginger Root that his concert is now under the direction of those at Juban TV. Silhouettes of people start trickling onto the stage as the CEO continues to express his excitement of the change, until fans suddenly start to cheer for the mysterious shadows.
One of the three silhouettes pulls out a remote and points it towards the video screen, suddenly turning off the Juban TV broadcast. As the stage fills with red lights, Ginger Root is illuminated on stage as they kick off their Seattle concert with the song, “Better than Monday” at the Moore Theater.
Ginger Root, also known as Cameron Lew, is a singer-songwriter from Southern California, producing music with indie and Japanese city pop vibes. Known for their variation in different mediums and media to produce music, Lew showcases all of these variations in their new album, “SHIBANGUMI”, released in September of this year.
With a chaotic setup, wires flowing from the mixing table, and a red phone held in the air, Lew brings their process and music to life. In most songs by Lew, “No Problems”, “Weather”, “Loretta”, and more, Lew heavily uses the textured sound of the phone, creating a muffled and nostalgic feel to their music.
Heavy bass rang throughout the theater as Lew played songs from their other albums, “Rikki”, “City Slicker”, and “Nisemono”, creating funky grooves for the audience to dance to, even the videographer joined in at points, swaying their hips and dancing with their feet.
As the band left the stage, fans immediately shouted out for an encore. And without a doubt, the band came back out for two more songs, closing out the night with “Mahjong Room” and “Weather” for their Seattle concert.
